GEOTAR-Media in English

«GEOTAR-Media» Publishing Group, established in 1995, is a leading Russian medical and pharmaceutical publisher. The first book published by GEOTAR was Russian translation of Stedman’s Medical Dictionary from Williams & Wilkins, the translation edited by acad. A.G. Chuchalin, prof. E.G. Ulumbekov and prof. O.K. Pozdeev.

Since 1995 hundreds of textbooks, manuals, guidelines, handbooks for medical doctors and atlases have been released by GEOTAR-Media. Currently the catalogue includes around 700 titles with 300 to 400 new publications made every year. 
GEOTAR-Media was the first in Russia to develop, publish and distribute evidence-based clinical practice guidelines (the first title – Russian edition of world-known EBM Guidelines from Finnish Medical Society DUODECIM, first appeared in 2003). Currently GEOTAR-Media releases and regularly updates collections of clinical guidelines in 16 major specialties and this work is maintained in close collaboration with Russian scientific societies.

Since 2006 GEOTAR-Media within National priority project for health has been developing and releasing information materials for primary care physicians. This work has been welcomed by special introduction letter signed by then Vice-Prime minister and now the Russian president Dmitry Medvedev. The project has been widely supported by Russian Ministry of Health and Social Development.

In 2006 under the state drug reimbursement program a series of materials (books and electronic informational educational materials) aimed at rational drug prescribing was also published by GEOTAR-Media.

Starting from 2007 GEOTAR-Media published national guides for continuous medical education in all major medical specialties.

Key realized publishing projects

• Development, publication, implementation and updating evidence-based clinical practice guidelines (in collaboration with Russian professional medical societies) – starting from 2002 till now.
  

• Development and continuous renewal of independent drug information system – starting from 2003 till now.
  

• Formulary system in Russia (the project included translation of WHO Model drug formulary, development of Drug formulary for children [in collaboration with Russian Union of Pediatricians] and web-site www.formular.ru) – 2006-2008.
  

• Information and education system «Physician ̓s Consult» (electronic education and point-of-care system available on CD-Roms and on the Internet) – 2005 till now.
  

• Informational system for primary care physicians (as part of Russian national priority project on health) – 2005-2006.
  

• Educating physicians in field of rational use of drugs within Federal drug reimbursement system (DLO/ONLS) – 2005-2006.
  

• Textbooks for continuous medical education and clinical practice (National guides on 50 major specialties, in collaboration with Russian professional medical societies) – 2006-2008.
  

• Educating non-professionals in healthy lifestyles, disease prevention, patient education – 2006-2008.
  

• Translation into Russian and publication of United States Pharmacopeia-National Formulary (in cooperation with USP) – 2006-2008.
  

Russian editions of world known international titles

With the team of nearly 50 experienced and qualified translators GEOTAR-Media makes Russian translations of the world-known atlases, key reference titles and student manuals, among them Netter’s Atlas of Human Anatomy, 4/ed, Davidson’s Principles and Practice of Medicine 20/ed, Stedman’s Medical Dictionary and many others. GEOTAR-Media publishes around 80 new translations per year.
